Channel selection for fluids containing particles or fibres

Distinguish particle size, fibres and viscosity when defining the application.

Characterise the fluid

Record particle size distribution, solids content and flow behaviour at the relevant temperature. These are separate characteristics.

Match geometry to the application

Wide-gap and free-flow descriptions do not establish suitability by themselves. NL, NW and Free Flow address different duties; LWC is not a wide-gap wastewater substitute. Channel spacing is not an allowable particle diameter.

Plan cleaning access

Describe normal operation, shutdown and cleaning scenarios. Review downtime and access requirements before making a model decision.

Prepare for the discussion

  • Fluids, composition and relevant material requirements
  • Flow rates and inlet/outlet temperatures on both circuits
  • Design conditions and allowable pressure drop on each side
  • Exact model, nameplate and current technical documents
