What to check when pressure drop increases

Compare pressure measurements under equivalent operating conditions.

Define the measurement

Distinguish inlet pressure from differential pressure across the exchanger. Record tapping points, units and the relevant circuit.

Record the trend

A sudden change and a gradual increase raise different questions. Note concurrent changes in flow rate, temperature and fluid properties.

Share a consistent record

Provide the design pressure drop and operating history to the service team. Pressure drop alone does not identify a fault or justify intervention in a running system.

Prepare for the discussion

  • Fluids, composition and relevant material requirements
  • Flow rates and inlet/outlet temperatures on both circuits
  • Design conditions and allowable pressure drop on each side
  • Exact model, nameplate and current technical documents
