What is CIP and how should cleaning be assessed?

Prepare for a cleaning discussion using the equipment and deposit information.

Understand the method

Cleaning-in-Place describes cleaning without dismantling in suitable systems. Its suitability depends on the equipment, deposits and manufacturer instructions.

Check chemical compatibility

Check the cleaner against plates, brazing material and gaskets. GNS, GBH and XCR should not be assigned a single universal cleaning recipe.

Define verification

Agree which operating data will be compared before and after cleaning. Hygienic applications also require plant-specific validation. Obtain the model-specific procedure rather than a generic concentration, temperature or duration.

Prepare for the discussion

  • Fluids, composition and relevant material requirements
  • Flow rates and inlet/outlet temperatures on both circuits
  • Design conditions and allowable pressure drop on each side
  • Exact model, nameplate and current technical documents
