Process information for selecting a pasteurisation heat exchanger

Define the product and thermal duty within the complete processing line.

Characterise the product

Include composition, flow behaviour and particles. Selecting an exchanger does not by itself validate the complete pasteurisation process.

Separate thermal duties

Describe heating, cooling and regeneration as separate duties with their own flow rates and temperatures. Do not assume a fixed recovery percentage.

Validate for the actual process

The time–temperature programme and hygienic acceptance require competent process validation. Milk, brine, juice, egg, honey and syrup need separate assessments; a material mentioned for brine is not a universal dairy specification.

Prepare for the discussion

  • Fluids, composition and relevant material requirements
  • Flow rates and inlet/outlet temperatures on both circuits
  • Design conditions and allowable pressure drop on each side
  • Exact model, nameplate and current technical documents
